GSA’s Plan Fails, Causing a 74% Reduction in New SAM Registrations

May 10, 2018 4:50:44 PM / by Hayden Johnson posted in System for Award Management (SAM), General Services Administration (GSA), News

In March 2018, the General Services Administration began requiring notarized letters from entities registering in SAM.gov. SAM is an acronym that stands for the System for Award Management. Anyone seeking to work as a government contractor or receive federal grants must be registered on this website. The regulation was later extended to existing government contractors wishing to renew their registration or make changes. Although it was a measure to deter fraud, this “solution” has backfired and contractors are the ones paying the price.

Finding Help with the System for Award Managment (SAM)

Nov 29, 2017 11:59:35 AM / by David Rockwell posted in System for Award Management (SAM)

What is SAM?

If you are interested in working as a contractor for the government, there’s no way around it: You must complete a SAM registration. SAM is the US government’s System for Award Management. SAM.gov centralizes all business and agency information so that contracting officers can get the most accurate idea of what your business does, how they do it, and where they do it.

SAM is free to complete, but due to the complexity of the form and the possibility of punishment for inputting incorrect information, it is highly recommended to use a third-party registration firm such as US Federal Contractor Registration (USFCR). In this post, case managers from USFCR share some helpful tips for undertaking the SAM registration on your own versus the benefits to working them at USFCR.

SAM Registration_ Should You Do It On Your Own_

Contributed by Marianne Swager

At the end of fiscal year 2016, more than 1.7 million businesses had completed a SAM Registration, but less than 500,000 actually were eligible to receive a government contract. Why? Because the other 1.2 million or so did not complete their SAM Registration correctly, which meant they did not qualify for a government contract. Also, they face potential penalties of between $10,000 and $100,000 for not having a valid SAM Registration while still pursuing government contracts.

SAM.gov Down for Maintenance Today

Dec 22, 2016 10:22:08 AM / by USFCR posted in System for Award Management (SAM), News

The System for Award Management (SAM.gov) will be down for planned maintenance on Thursday, December 22 from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. EST.
This maintenance includes software changes that the government expects will improve the SAM user experience, improve the quality of information available from SAM, and reduce the burden for those wishing to do business with the U.S. Federal government. These changes also include a few minor tweaks to how the government collects and uses information during the SAM Registration process.
US Federal Contractor Registration, the world's largest third-party government registration firm, will address any changes that affect its more than 60,000 clients, which is just one benefit of working with a firm rather than trying to handle your SAM Registration on your own.
Don't believe us? Over the years, we've heard from government agents who were impressed with the services we provide and believed that working with us was hands down better than doing it on your own:

New SAM Registration Questions Attempt to Remedy Small Business Contract Spending Issue

Yes it is true.  The GSA has made more amendments to the System for Award Management (SAM) registration.  In what seems like a positive move for small businesses is currently only resulting in confused calls and uninformed contractors. SAM has been sending out emails to registered government contractors about 4 new questions incorporated into the SAM registration.  These four new questions were added on November 1st, 2014 to the Federal Acquisition Regulations in FAR Subpart 4.18 - Commercial and Government Entity Code (CAGE).  These new questions are without question an answer to the on-going small business contracts issue.  As stated presented by politicians, activists and movements like the Small Business League, small business contracts are still being awarded to large businesses and they are finding proof.
