Steps to Create a LogIn.gov Account - Video Tutorial

For registration in the System for Award Management and some advanced features of SAM.gov, such as Contract Reports and the Workspace, you will first need a Login.gov account.

With all the government websites, organizing your account and login credentials can be difficult. Login.gov was built to provide a single access point to the handful of government websites that require a login to access or update business and personal information.

Here are the steps:

How to Create Your Login.gov and SAM.gov Accounts: A Step-by-Step Guide

Setting up your Login.gov and SAM.gov accounts is essential for federal contracting. Follow this simple guide:

Step 1: Access SAM.gov

  1. Visit SAM.gov.
  2. Click on “Sign In” at the top right corner.
  3. Click “Accept” on the pop-up window.

Step 2: Create Your Login.gov Account

  1. Scroll down and select “Create an account” on the Login.gov page.
  2. Enter your email address.
  3. Select your email language preference.
  4. Check the box to accept the Rules of Use.
  5. Click “Submit.”

Step 3: Confirm Your Email

  1. Login.gov will send a confirmation email to your provided address.
  2. Open the email from Login.gov (no-reply@login.gov) and click “Confirm email address.”
    • If you receive a message that your email is already associated with an account, return to SAM.gov and log in as normal.

Step 4: Create a Strong Password

  1. Create a strong password for your account.
  2. Ensure your password strength is “Great!” and save it in a safe place.
  3. Click “Continue.”

Step 5: Set Up Authentication Method

  1. A security code is required every time you log in. The recommended method is “Text or voice message.”
  2. Select “Text or voice message” and click “Continue.”
  3. Add your phone number and choose the method: TEXT MESSAGES for cell phones or PHONE CALL for landlines.
  4. Click “Send Code.”

Step 6: Enter One-Time Code

  1. Enter the code received in the “one-time code” box and click “Submit.”

Step 7: Agree to SAM.gov Terms

  1. Review the agreement terms for using a SAM.gov account.
  2. Check the box to agree and click “Submit.”

Step 8: Complete Profile Setup

  1. You will receive a notification that a one-time password (OTP) is being sent to your email inbox.
  2. Find the email and insert the 6-digit OTP to proceed.

Step 9: Continue to SAM.gov

  1. Click “Agree and continue” to proceed to SAM.gov.
  2. Complete your profile by adding your first and last name as on file. Adding a phone number is optional.
  3. Click “Submit.”

Step 10: Disregard Request Role Page (Optional)

  1. You can disregard the "Request Role" page for now. 
  2. Click “Next.”

Final Step: Access Your SAM.gov Profile

You should now see your “Workspace/Profile” page.
