Vets First - Preference to Veteran-Owned Small Businesses on Federal Contracts
Veteran-owned small businesses (VOSBs) have one of the biggest advantages in federal contracting. Veteran’s Affairs (VA) gives preference to veteran-owned small businesses who have been vetted through the Veteran’s First Verification Program.
Combine that preference with the additional benefits of being a service-disabled veteran-owned small business (SDVOSB) and you have one of the biggest spending areas for small businesses in federal contracting.
Spending on Veteran-Owned Small Businesses
According to the 2018 Small Business Goaling Report from the betaSAM Databank (legacy: FPDS) about 42% of contracts issued by the VA went to VOSBs and SDVOSBs combined. That amounts to over $11 billion dollars in federal contracts.
Government wide, over $47 billion dollars was spent on these types of businesses. That’s about 39% of the total spent on small businesses in general for federal contract awards.
Certification through the Veteran’s First Verification Program is key to obtain this advantage. On top of being registered in the System for Award Management (SAM), businesses have to work through the documentation to get certified in this program.
Registration and certification are only the beginning. Success also depends on determination paired with the right strategy. In this webinar, you will learn how to make sure you have the right registrations, certifications, tools and strategies to allow your determination to be fully utilized.
- The easiest method to get through the red-tape of certification and registration
- Agencies like Veterans Affairs who direct large percentages of their spending to veterans
- Finding contracts that can be awarded with little to no competition to VOSBs and SDOVSBs
