Cyberattacks are a constant threat in today's world, from stealing personal information to breaching large information systems. In response, the National Science Foundation (NSF) has created the Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace (SaTC) program, which aims to advance cybersecurity and privacy through research and education.
The NSF is now accepting applications that address cybersecurity and privacy based in one or more areas: computing, communication, and information sciences; engineering; education; mathematics; statistics; and social, behavioral, and economic sciences. The SaTC program seeks to fund new approaches that protect and defend cyberspace from adversaries while also exploring innovative ways to develop the next-generation cyber workforce and expedite the transition of cybersecurity research into practice.
Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs) and nonprofit organizations are eligible to apply. Applications should be submitted under one of the following designations:
- CORE: Advancing cybersecurity through research.
- EDU: Focusing on cybersecurity and privacy education and training.
- TTP (Transition to Practice): Aiming to transition existing research results into practice.
Core and TTP proposals can be submitted as small projects, with budgets up to $600,000 for a duration of three years, or as medium projects, with budgets ranging from $600,001 to $1.2 million over four years. EDU proposals are generally limited to $400,000 for up to three years. The NSF anticipates making 90 awards, including approximately 15 EDU awards, 35 Small awards, and 25 Medium awards. Letters of intent are not required, and full proposals are accepted at any time.
